Welcome to the first episode of re[fashion]! This series is somewhat a subsection of #DIYwithDami where I transform pieces of whatever.
I chose this song (Tyler, the Creator - Glitter) because duh. This is such an easy way to amp up a piece of jewellery, and as shown in the video, you don't have to just use glitter nail polish you can use solid colour, metallic, duo chrome, anything! Comment below if you have ever tried anything like this yourself. I’m going to take these earrings I got on sale from Primark and customise them. I saw them and I instantly thought of the lovely coloured Perspex hoops that Alissa Ashley can sometimes be seen wearing – on this Instagram post for example.
Initially, I bought them without the intention to modify them, but I got home and gathered they’re only £1, let’s try this idea out. In this video I’ll be converting these plain hoops into glitter hoops.
In order to customise them you’ll need a pair of earrings, and some nail polish. I bought this little gold glitter polish along with the earrings from Primark for 60p and I underestimated how good it was for the price.
If you’re wondering what nail polish, I’ve got on it is the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 331 Enchanté. Sorry about the chips.
Now all there is to do is get painting! I really tried to layer it on to get as much glitter on there as possible. After this step, all you need to do is hold them a while, probably about 10-20 minutes dependent upon how many layers you put down. Then if you want to cover the part where you were holding the earrings, paint and let dry again.
My initial idea was to use chunky glitter, but I didn’t have any and I didn’t want to invest more into the project, so I asked my friend and she lent me two of her chunky glitters. This purple one is from Topshop which they don’t sell anymore so I’m not sure how much it was. I had one of these too many years ago and if the standard is still the same then I can attest that Topshop nail polish is great. The chunky gold glitter that says ‘beautiful bronze’ I’m not sure where it’s from so again unfortunately I don’t know the price. I also opted to use a regular solid colour nail polish. The Rimmel London Super Gel Nail Polish in 035 Coral Queen (£5.50), is a bit outlandish for me when I put it on my nails, but I bought it so I’m glad I finally got a use out of it.
Just goes to show you can use any nail polish you like and create any pattern too! I would also recommend using a top coat to seal in the polish, I was too lazy to do this but so far, they seem pretty durable as is.
